Day 4

Well, I have had an interesting couple of days. Yesterday was my first day of training and it was a very mixed day. It started off pretty badly as one of the cars had a flat tyre so were and hour late leaving the hotel. It never creates a good impression being an hour late on the first day. However, it was completely beyond our control so there was no stressing.

Walking into the training room was a bit of a shock, there were sooooo many people!!! The fifteen that I was to train had turned into 22!!!!! This is NOT a good number to be training!!!!! And to top it off our main application was not working which made training somewhat difficult and it was very frustrating as it was working fine the day before. Also that manuals (that I had been assured would be ready) were not. They were printed but still in loose piles and the quality of the printing was terrible. We struggled along and managed to get some training done but it wasn't great.

We had McDonalds for lunch yesterday as it was quick, easy and available. It was really delicious. :-).

After work we headed back in the cars and there were HEAPS of Telecom people. We got back to the hotel at about 6. I headed to my room changed and hit the treadmill for 45 minutes. Sheetal rang me just as I got back to the room to see about going out for dinner but I was really knackered and didn't really feel like traipsing around the malls so I stayed in. It was just as well I did as I started to feel really nauseous and thought I might throw up. In the end I went to bed at about 8:30 and was asleep within minutes.

Today started off just as auspiciously as I got a phone call at 6 am from our driver Si to ask if I had got the message that we were being picked up at 6am!!! I still don't know a)who decided that we needed to leave at such a hideous hour and b)why we never got the message.

The training was about as successful (or not) today as it was yesterday!!!!! The systems STILL weren't working and things were a real mess. They finally got them going at about 11am but then we discovered the customers were having a quiet day and there virtually no requests to work on. It was challenging!!!!

Already I am finding mistakes and errors showing up which is a real worry at this early stage.

Lunch today was carbonara and a smoothie at Pizza Huta for about 4 dollars. They do smoothies over here REALLY well.

The ride home in the brand new van with everybody was hilarious. Kiwi guys really come to the fore when they are overseas and are heaps of laughs!!

I got brave this evening and ventured out on my own, in the dark, to the shop next door (LOL I am so big and bwave) and got a wi-fi kit. Yay!!!! Back in the land of the internet!!!! I also popped to the 7/11 to get some Coke Lite (not Diet). It is so cheap!!!!! 26 pesos!!! (32 pesos to the dollar!!!!) But even cheaper was the beer.....25 pesos!!! So I got a few bottles of that for the fridge too. I have yet to make it to a supermarket but have make a disturbing discovery......Haagen Dasz is sold here....dammit, that is NOT going to help the diet!!!!!!

Anyhoo, it is now about 8:30 and I am sitting in the bar on the top floor of the hotel watching the daily thunderstorm. I miss New Zealand and everyone there (furry and non-furry) and am looking forward to going home but am enjoying myself.
